Crombie Resigns, Stiles Under Pressure
Liberals and NDP both slip, while Ford’s majority holds firm on the model
This weekend, Ontario Liberal members met at their party convention to decide the fate of Bonnie Crombie’s leadership, and where to go from there should she fail to stay on as leader.
With the convention come and gone, Crombie secured an abysmal 57% of the vote in her leadership review. While she initially pledged to stay on as leader immediately after the vote, she made the decision to resign only a few hours later.
With the Ontario NDP heading into their own convention this weekend, Marit Stiles may very well be facing a similar fate, given rumours of some unions working to oust her behind the scenes.
On the current polling averages, Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives sit at 46%, well ahead of the next closest party, the Liberals, who find themselves at 29%. The NDP, despite retaining their status as the official opposition in February’s election, has dropped further to 17%, while the Greens sit at 5%.
The PCs hold a lead across every region, with the party maintaining a ten point lead even in Toronto.
With all that said, let’s take a look at where the parties stand in Ontario in the middle of September, and how they are doing on the model as a result.
