US Aggression Top Concern For Canadians
35% of Canadians say they would seriously consider moving abroad if US annexation threats ramp up
With travel to the United States from Canada dropping off in the face of the US-Canada trade war, Canadians are increasingly saying the spat between our two nations is the number one issue facing us today.
A new survey from Leger asked Canadians what they believe is the biggest issue facing the country. Among respondents, 41% say that US aggression, in the form of annexation threats and a trade war, is the biggest issue today.
Liberal (57%) and Bloc voters (55%) are the most likely to say that our relations with the US is the most important issue. NDP (35%) and Conservatives (29%) are less concerned overall, yet US relations is still the top pick among those voters.
Another 18% of Canadians say that inflation is the biggest issue today, with another 10% saying housing affordability is their prime concern. Meanwhile, the share of Canadians saying immigration is their top concern has dropped to 2%.
Leger also asked Canadians how they felt about booing the US anthem at sporting events, alongside the likelihood of Canadians to move abroad should US annexation threats become more realistic.
