Support For Ukraine Joining NATO Remains High
A majority of Canadians support sending peacekeepers to Ukraine amid ceasefire talks
New polling from the Angus Reid Institute suggests a majority of Canadians (64%) support Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
That support is highest among Bloc voters, of which 90% support Ukraine being allowed into NATO. Liberals (79%), NDP (76%), and Green voters (68%) also strongly support the notion.
However, opposition to Ukraine being allowed to join NATO has slowly risen over the past couple of years. Initially, just after Russia invaded Ukraine, opposition to Ukraine joining NATO was at 7%.
In the latest poll from Angus Reid, 19% of Canadians now oppose Ukraine joining NATO. Opposition to Ukraine joining is highest among Conservatives (33%) and ‘Other’ voters (58%), of which PPC voters make up the majority.
Angus Reid also asked Canadians how they feel about sending troops to Ukraine as peacekeepers, and our continued level of support to the Ukrainian state as the war drags on.
