With the trade war between Canada and the US ever threatening the populace of both nations, Canadians have been rapidly moving towards the expansion of our own economy, particularly through resource development.

Previously, there was once fierce resistance to the expansion of the Canadian oil and gas sector thanks to concerns around the environmental impact of the industry. Now, new polling from Environics Research suggests Canadians are on board with the expansion of the industry, if not to help reduce our dependence on our southern neighbours.

They found 73% of Canadians support the idea of building a new pipeline from the oil sands to the West Coast, with the intention to ship those resources abroad. Likewise, another 73% support the construction of a pipeline in the opposite direction, from Alberta to the East Coast, with both pipelines finding 27% of Canadians opposed to the idea.

More insights from the poll suggest Canadians have become rapidly pro-resource development in the past few years, clearing the way for governments to move forward on once controversial projects.
