Conservative Infighting Gives The NDP An Edge
A divided right is proving to be the NDP’s biggest ally in BC’s latest polls
New polling from Angus Reid is reinforcing a familiar narrative in British Columbia: while the Conservatives continue to hold notable support, internal party turmoil is weighing on voters’ minds.
Angus Reid’s latest poll shows the Conservatives at 41%, the NDP at 40%, the Greens at 11%, and, notably, OneBC at 5% and CentreBC at 1%. While the Conservative and NDP numbers are consistent with other recent polls, there’s growing attention on those two smaller parties aiming to chip away at Conservative support.
CentreBC, along with its more right-leaning counterpart OneBC, have started to appear more regularly in provincial polling.
CentreBC sits at 1% in the latest Angus Reid survey and at 3% in both Abacus and Research Co polls. Meanwhile, the Angus Reid results align closely with a Cardinal poll released earlier this month, which placed OneBC at 4% and “other parties” at 3%, potentially including CentreBC among them.
Let’s look more closely at Angus Reid’s findings, particularly regarding John Rustad’s leadership, and see how they affect the Polling Canada BC model.
