Canadians Can Never Trust America Again
While America descends into a new era of internal strife, polling suggests Canadians remain pessimistic about our southern neighbour
As the United States grapples with a rising tide of political violence and government crackdown on fundamental rights, Canadians are not particularly optimistic about the nation either, as new polling from Ipsos suggests.
When the survey asked Canadians whether they agreed with the idea that Canadians can never trust the Americans the same way again, a strong majority (60%) agreed. That agreement was much higher with older Canadians (72%) than with younger Canadians (47%), and men were slightly more likely to agree than women.
There was very little disagreement with the statement, with only 16% of Canadians saying so, while the other 24% were neutral or indifferent.
The rest of the polling remains pessimistic about our future relations with the Americans, despite Carney receiving high marks for his approach to the Trump administration.
