Canada’s Green Vibe Is Fading Fast
As global pressures rise, Canadians pivot back to the extraction economy that has long driven national growth
Since the Covid pandemic and the following economic strife that has latched itself onto the global economy, many Canadians are looking for any way possible to boost our national economy, even if the environment must come second.
New polling from Angus Reid and Nanos suggests Canadians are pushing ahead with energy focused policy, leaving behind the climate minded policy direction that guided the nation in the mid 2010s.
Back in September 2022, Angus Reid found 28% of Canadians picking climate and the environment as one of their top issues, with those numbers holding relatively steady into 2023.
Yet, with the rise of Donald Trump in late 2024, Canadians rapidly shifted their focus elsewhere, with the share of Canadians still choosing the environment and climate as a top issue dropping to 18% in the latest Angus Reid survey.
Nanos’ research suggests much the same, with a deeper look into how and where Canadians want government support directed for our energy economy.
