America The Enemy?
Nearly 3-in-10 Canadians say they view the United States as an enemy to Canada
The United States is now a month into Trump’s second term as president, and in that time he’s sent Canadians into something of a full-blown fury. With threats of economy-thrashing tariffs, alongside the less than subtle suggestion of annexation, Canadians have continued to sour on the US in recent weeks.
In some cases, a sizeable portion of the Canadian populace is now actively seeing the United States as an enemy.
Let’s break it down and see how the United States is faring in the eyes of Canadians.
Trump Remains Deeply Unpopular Among Canadians
New polling from Leger has given us a glimpse into how Canadians view Donald Trump in his return to the White House. Among all Canadians, 74% say they have an unfavourable view of the president, while only 13% say they have a favourable one.
Those Canadians favourable to the US President are more prevalent in the prairies, where 21% of Albertans, and 20% of Manitobans and Saskatchewanians, say they’re favourable towards him.
On the flip side, Quebecers are most likely to say they have an unfavourable view of Trump, with 81% feeling that way. The share of Canadians who dislike the US President is also high in Atlantic Canada (78%), Ontario (75%), and British Columbia (72%).
Disapproval of Trump among Canadians is also fairly consistent across Canada’s political parties and their supporters, with one notable exception.
