Newly released polling from Innovative Research takes a look at the culture war in Canada, with the results producing few surprises.

Canadians were asked whether they believe the country’s political, economic, and social systems benefit ordinary people or primarily serve the elites. The poll found that 54% believe these systems are rigged to benefit Canada’s elites at the expense of average Canadians, while only 30% say Canadians are well served by the nation’s institutions.

The divide between economic and political elites and everyday citizens has become a growing issue in Canadian politics, as well as globally, over the past several years. That tension intensified during the Covid pandemic, when long-standing weaknesses in modern systems were laid bare.

As this polling shows, Canadians are largely aligned with the view that the balance has tilted too far away from ordinary people.
